1. Dehydration: Water sources are unreliable. Bring more water than you think you need.

Camping within 200 feet of a trailhead is prohibited.

Linville Gorge is by far my favorite place in all of North Carolina. It has so much to offer, from all the falls to explore, to the many trails either up to the top of a beautiful mountain peak, or down to the bottom to explore the Linville river.

My family and I have been going to the Gorge for 25+ years now we spend hours picking up broken glass, toilet paper, nails and bullets the place has become a dump. People should have to get a permit leave all info so they can be heavily fined for leaving a mess. You should go elsewhere or just go camp at you local dump with some loud drunks because they'll keep you awake in the linville gorge bar and grill.

No motorized use or mechanical travel is allowed (bikes, power tools, drills, and drones).

Overnight camping permits are required weekends May through October.

Prepare for the Wild

Loved it, did the loop. Had a bear take out one of my friends tents over night, and wouldn't leave no matter what we did (near table rock). Ran into another one (took off as soon as we seen eachother) later near the river. Loved it, but expensive trip! Absolutely beautiful and plan on going back

Use a bear hang, or canister, at night to keep animals from getting human food.

2. Navigation: Trails can be difficult to follow. Bring a map that you understand.

No removal of plants or rocks is allowed.

The Linville Gorge Wilderness has one of the highest rates of Search and Rescue in the country. About 90% of Search and Rescues are because of lack of preparedness.

Bury human waste and toilet paper.

Group size is limited to 10 people.

Top 3 Reasons People Need Rescue:

Carry out all trash, even if it breaks down naturally.

3. Underestimation: Linville trails can be harsh. First time visitors should plan to move no more than 1 mile per hour.

Keep in mind…

Help keep Linville from being “Loved to death”

There are many trails to explore in the area it is so much fun! It is simply beautiful heavenly place! Also you can dip or swim in the Gorge to cool off. My friends and I keep coming back all the times.

Use campfires responsibly. Be certain your fire is out before you leave it.
